Leawood Club Volunteers at Jo Co Christmas Bureau
On December 6, Leawood Rotarians served about 120 Johnson County Christmas Bureau families, prequalified according to income and family size. Shoppers were given an arrival time, and a Rotary “helper” walked the route in the warehouse with them, providing guidance and helping with the shopping cart. The larger the family, the more items (food, clothing, etc.) they were able to select.
The various departments Leawood Rotary was assigned to were:
• Groceries – enough for 3 to 5 days.
• Personal Care Items - such as laundry detergent, soap, shampoo, hygiene products, toothbrushes and more.
• Toys - for children ages 0-10 often this is the only holiday gift a child receives.
• Teen Gifts - ages 11-18 age-appropriate items for teenagers.
• Books – a large selection of books for all ages.
• Children/Teen Clothing - ages 0-18 new clothes are always a great gift.
• Adult Gifts - Household gifts and various other items.
• Hats, Gloves & Scarves also known as "HUGS" Dept – one of each for every child/teenager in the household.
• Coats - one for every child / teen (newborn-age 18) in the household.
