Trailblazers never get tired of saying we were busy blazing trails again this past month.
In early August our club members visited The Golden Scoop ice cream parlor on 103rd in Overland Park and enjoyed ice cream treats on a hot August evening. We also enjoyed learning more about the business from some of the employees, who also led our group on a tour.

Their business model is centered on employees with intellectual and developmental challenges, with the goal of setting them up for success in a community where everyone’s gifts are valued!

Later in the month at one of our more conventional meetings, members enjoyed a presentation by fellow Trailblazer Dianne Daugherty who discussed her recent trip to Japan.
Dianne shared beautiful pictures of her journey and talked of what she saw there, including the beautiful architecture of Tokyo and other cities, Mt. Fuji, and so many other wonderful sights of museums, shrines, and gardens around the country.
One highlight for Dianne was attending the Rotary Club of Maebashi West, of which Dianne used to be a member. In our next Board meeting, we’ll learn how our Trailblazers can partner with Maebashi West Rotary by supporting a Summer Youth Exchange Program, and also just simply sharing photos of club events, sharing member profiles, and perhaps even sharing in “delegation” visits.

In September members will enjoy the club’s own chili challenge – in preparation for the Lenexa Chili Challenge in October. And we’ll do an Environmental tour of Johnson County Community College and learn about their efforts and investments to be more environmentally friendly.
