Welcome
Global Grant Scholarships

Rotary Global Grants may support scholarships for graduate students studying abroad in one of Rotary’s seven areas of focus. Scholarships range from one to four years and therefore can include an entire degree program. Prospective scholars must show proof of admission to the chosen university before the grant will be approved. Global grant scholars are expected to participate in club or district activities before, during, and after the scholarship. Global Grant Scholarships are funded using the District Designated Fund, matched by Rotary’s World Fund. The global grant budget must total at least US$30,000.
Global Grant Scholarships began in 2013 and replaced the Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship program. District 5710 averaged one Global Grant Scholar a year from fiscal years 2013 – 2018. In 2019 and 2020, no money was allocated to Global Grant Scholarships but money was directed to making District 5710 a Rotary Peace District.
Then, in fiscal 2020-2021, District 5710 started a new initiative to invest in a fund to support Global Grant scholarships again. District 5710 will set aside $10,000 in three fiscal years, until a total of $30,000 has been reached. These District Designated Funds can then be matched with whatever the current amount may be from the Rotary World Fund at that point in time. Thus the District hopes to provide a good total of funding for a future Global Grant Scholarship. Scholarships have to be budgeted at a minimum of $30,000 but the District hopes to exceed that amount and meet the needs of our student scholars.
Therefore, in fiscal year 2022-2023, Rotarians may work to find, interview and select a Global Grant Scholar. Money will be available in fiscal year 2023-2024, for the student to study abroad.
- District works to find and interview Global Grant Scholarship applicants in 2022-2023
- District submits the application to RI in the summer or early fall of 2023
- Global Grant Scholar goes abroad to study in the winter of or fall of 2024.
Then, the process will start over. District 5710 will put aside $10,000 a year for another three years.
- District works to find and interview Global Grant Scholarship applicants in 2025-26
- District submits the application to RI in the summer or early fall of 2026
- Global Grant Scholar goes abroad to study in the winter of or fall of 2027.
In the past, both cash and District Designated Funds (DDF) could be matched by the Rotary Foundation for Global Grant Scholarships. Due to COVID-19, only DDF can be matched. This is why District 5710 is needing a longer time to accumulate the money necessary for the match. It is disappointing but COVID-19 has seemingly affected every aspect of our lives.
