Global Grant Scholar Update

Anna McCartan, from Leawood, KS, is pursuing a MS degree in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology at the University College Cork in Cork, Ireland, and is representing District 5710 very well.
Here is Anna’s May report in her own words:
“Hi Mr. Graham,
I hope you are well! The past month has been a whirlwind of finishing exams, saying goodbye to friends as they head home, and beginning my research project with SeqBiome. Exams were busy, but I think that they went well. I won’t have to wait quite as long for the results this term—I should hear back sometime next week. I have also enjoyed starting my research project, which involves collecting microbiome data from several existing sources and combining it into a full database. I’m off to a good start in terms of data acquisition. My project is fully remote, but I have a nice lab space available on campus where I can get work done alongside other grad students, so that has been very helpful as I begin.
My lease here in Cork wraps up in a couple of weeks, so I am starting the process of packing up my flat and saying goodbyes to friends and favorite places. I was able to celebrate my birthday with a few friends last weekend, and also hike the Howth Cliff Walk, which is a very pretty area near Dublin Bay! Before I return to Kansas, I am looking forward to helping out with Rotary’s Children’s Day Out, which will at Fota Wildlife Park the day before I leave.
All the best, Anna McCartan”
Thanks to District 5710 leadership for funding the Global Grant Scholarship program. It is always exciting to have an excellent scholar studying abroad and representing District 5710.
